I'm in chains (138/365v2010:5/18)

I'm in chains (138/365v2010:5/18)

Your arms are warm but they make me feel
As if they're made of cold, cold steel
A simple kiss like a turnin' key
A little click and the lock's on me
Can't move my arms, can't lift my hands
I won't admit to where I am
But I know, baby...

I'm in chains
I'm in chains

I pretend I can always leave
Free to go whenever I please
But then the sound of my desperate calls
Echo off these dungeon walls
I've crossed the line from mad to sane
A thousand times and back again
I love you, baby...

I'm in chains
I'm in chains
I'm in chains
I'm in chains

Should have known passing through the gate
That once inside, I could not escape
I never thought this could happen to me
Never thought this is where I'd be
But baby, baby
Baby, baby, look at me
I'm in chains

The year was 1995. I had been conversing with, and getting close to, a girl I met over the computer named Terry. We ended up meeting in person for the first time in February '96, then met a couple more times.

Then on April 28, when we met for the 4th time, we kissed. It was 4 days before my 22nd birthday and I had gotton not only my first kiss but my first green light to go ahead and fall for this girl. The fact that she would kiss me told me that she felt the same for me, so I officially declared myself in love with her.

And then came my personal September 11th: May 18, 1996.

My plan for that day was to make it the best birthday for Terry that I possibly could, but my plans crumbled when, first, she was called into work and I was stuck 4 hours away from home and having to spend most of the day with her roommate until she got off work. Second, a 2-ton anvil fell on my chest during that time when her roomie told me that she was DATING someone. And third, I never got to spend any time with Terry and talk to her about how she really felt about me, even after I specifically told her that I loved her, because she was too distracted by other things..... including the new guy. It wasn't until she responded to a mail I sent her that I found out she didn't realize I was serious. She literally thought I was joking when I told her I loved her.

She humanized me on April 28, and 3 weeks later, she dehumanized me.

Terry is one of the most unforgettable people in my life, and that's why, every year on May 18th, I look back on what she did to me... and what she did for me. On the negative side, Terry's game put a big spotlight on my gullibility and also reiterated the fact that I'm destined for a lifetime of being "the friend" to women and never "the potential boyfriend".

But on the positive, Terry opened me up to love. Those 3 weeks inbetween our kiss and May 18 was the happiest time of my life. I felt a great sense of worth like I hadn't felt before. I believed that I was actually an important part of a girl's life just as much as she was to mine. She may not have felt that way, but I did. That sense of meaning was wonderful and I knew now just what a fantastic thing it can be to be in love with someone. So while Terry isn't my true love, she may inadvertedly help me find my true love because she was the first one to expose me to that emotion. For that, I thank God for bringing Terry into my life, even if it had to end in such a quick and gut-wrenching way.

For this year, to correlate with this 365, I decided to do something very daring and, to some, quite sad (and also, dare I say it, something that made me walk the line). As you've seen, I've done a full week of breakup songs to lead up to May 18th, and for my actual picture today, I returned to where it all happened: the apartment complex in Tuscaloosa where Terry was living. This is the first time since '96 that I've been back here. And today's song, "Chains", was a song that was in rotation on top-40 stations during the Spring of '96 and it's a song that reminds me of Terry, Tuscaloosa and everything inbetween.

RONAN KEATING 2010 AUSTRALIAN TOUR WITH SPECIAL GUEST TINA ARENA

International superstar Ronan Keating will undertake his first concert tour of Australia in eight years when he returns to our shores in January 2010.

In news that will thrill his legions of Australian fans, the charismatic Irish star will perform indoor concerts in Melbourne and Sydney, and seven ‘a day on the green’ winery events around the country.

The tour’s very special guest will be the wonderful Tina Arena. Following two sold-out seasons of performances here in 2008 and 2009 and with sales of her recent album ‘Songs Of Love and Loss’ close to 200,000 units, Tina is looking forward to touring again – and especially with Ronan.

“Like every Aussie living abroad, I love coming home for Christmas but this year I’m also really looking forward to touring with Ronan,” Tina said. “We’ve sung together before but never toured together, so that has me really excited. He’s a genuinely lovely guy and I’m really looking forward to performing with him again.”

Singer/songwriter Damien Leith will also perform at all the ‘a day on the green’ concerts.

Ronan will arrive in Australia next week for a promotional tour to launch his new album ‘Stay’ (released on Universal Records on November 13), and to announce the concert dates.

The 2010 tour through Australia, New Zealand and the UK is his first solo outing since 2004 and Ronan is incredibly excited about putting the show together and having the opportunity to perform all his classic hits like ‘Life Is A Rollercoaster’, ‘Lovin Each Day’, ‘When You Say Nothing At All’, ‘If Tomorrow Never Comes’, ‘The Long Goodbye’, and ‘I Love It When We Do’ plus the songs from ‘Stay’.

Australia has always embraced Ronan’s music and to date he has three Platinum albums (‘Ronan’, ‘Bring You Home’ and ‘Songs For My Mother’) and two Double Platinum albums (‘Destination’ and ‘10 Years Of Hits’), with his total sales in this country now in excess of 1.2 million units.

Released earlier this year, ‘Songs For My Mother’ held the #1 spot on the ARIA Album Chart for four consecutive weeks.

With record sales in excess of 22 million albums globally, an enviable Guinness Book Of Records listing for being the only artist ever to have 30 consecutive top 10 singles in the UK chart (beating the likes of Elvis and The Beatles!), an Ivor Novello and BMI songwriting awards, an autobiography and an extensive and much-applauded list of charity endeavours, Ronan’s triumphant career shows no signs of slowing down just yet.

This year he has climbed Kilimanjaro for the UK charity Comic Relief, raising an outstanding £3.5 million, ran the London Marathon, completed a hugely successful two month arena tour with Boyzone, and was honoured with a Special Achievement Award from Cancer Research UK to recognise his on-going work for The Marie Keating Charity (began after his mother’s death from breast cancer in 1998). Most recently he has recorded ‘Stay’, a set of traditional and modern festive classics that evoke special memories of Christmas for him.

The tour will be another triumphant return home for TINA ARENA. Earlier this year, and twelve years since the initial success of her French hit ‘Aller Plus Haut’, Tina was recognised for her contributions to arts and music by being awarded the French Order of Merit, presided over by President Sarkozy himself. A summer of European touring followed, backed up by the release of Tina’s French Greatest Hits album ‘The Best and Le Meilleur’.

“There really is nothing like the out-door venues in Australia,” Tina said. “They are some of the best places on earth – and surrounded by the holy grape! Touring them with Ronan will be an amazing start to 2010.”

Ronan is thrilled to be heading back to Australia for this national tour, and with the sublime Tina Arena as special guest, this is a night not to be missed!

I Need Your Body

I need your body
I got to have your body

You whisper my name and I feel my heart
Beat like it's never gonna stop
I lose all self control and feel it start
Your love takes me right to the top

I want you close to me

You make me feel like we're the only ones
Who've ever been in love before
These feelings burn inside me night and day
You keep me reaching out for more

And the wind cries out
Out your name to me
And I feel no shame
Feeling this way

I need your body
I got to have your body
Close to me
Such a temptation
A burning new sensation
Flowing through me
I need you close to me
